Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak could form formidable Rangers partnership

Alfredo Morelos has yet to get going for Rangers this season after a number of issues, but the international break was perfect for him and the club.

After a thigh injury ended his campaign early last season, Morelos returned to great anticipation and managed to score on his first substitute appearance as if he’d never been away.

But then disciplinary problems and fitness issues meant that he couldn’t get in the team and was given a warning by manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst that he needed to improve his mindset.

A two week break from fixtures will give “El Buffalo” a chance for a reset, but more importantly a chance for the manager to find a way to make his team as strong as possible.

Summer signing Antonio Colak has had a terrific start to the season so far, netting nine goals for the Gers and topping the goalscoring charts so far in the absence of the Colombian.

So is there a way for Van Bronckhorst to get the two to play together? He’d be crazy if he didn’t at the very least try to do that, right?

Morelos is at his best when he is able to roam across the front line, running the channels and bullying defenders with his physical presence, while Colak is a pure penalty box poacher whose overall game is fairly limited.

That sounds like an ideal partnership for a team that has the attacking ability to blow teams away domestically, while also having troubles defensively so far this season.

Sometimes the best form of defence is attack, and Van Bronckhorst could sacrifice a central midfield option partner them together in games where they are going to dominate possession and provide an added goal threat.

With Morelos’ contract expiring in the summer, alongside Ryan Kent’s, the players need to be excited about the project if they’re to stay on and pen renewals to stay beyond this season.

Putting a team together that can blow teams away is likely to do that, and more goals usually equals more wins and titles. It’s got to be worth a try.
