Alan Rough raves about Rangers striker Antonio Colak
Alan Rough has showered praise on Rangers striker Antonio Colak after he bagged a brace against Dundee United last week in the Scottish Premiership clash.
The Bears returned to winning ways after three consecutive defeats. They earned a 2-1 victory at Ibrox and are now only two points behind Celtic.
Colak, the summer signing, has been preferred ahead of Alfredo Morelos this season by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and he has been getting goals.
“Inside the 18-yard box, he is pretty lethal,” said Rough on PLZ Football Show (20 September).
“He is one of those strikers that can read the ball where they are going when they are wide. He seems to check back and anticipate what’s going to happen before anybody else.
“Maybe he is not as mobile as Morelos but certainly in the box, he’s scoring goals.”
Rough is absolutely spot on here. The 29-year-old striker took some time to settle down but he is now scoring regularly for the Gers.
Colak has managed nine goals in all competitions so far. He is a lethal striker in the box, and probably a bit old-school type, who anticipates danger.
Morelos, on the other hand, is a mobile striker who gives fluidity in the attack. However, the Colombian hasn’t been used much by the Dutchman this season, as he feels the striker is still lacking sharpness.
The Bears need Morelos to perform at his best as well, as we all know, what he is capable of. When he is on the song, he can score loads of goals.
But, at the same time, he is not doing enough to dislodge Colak from the starting line-up. On top of that, his contract situation is proving to be a headache for the club.
Morelos has a contract until the end of the season, and he is yet to pen a new deal. Based on the current form, he doesn’t deserve a new deal.
