Former Rangers striker says 'there is no pattern' to Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team selection

Rangers looked unconvincing on Saturday despite beating Dundee United 2-1 at Ibrox, inviting more pressure over Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s job.

After three consecutive defeats, Rangers finally got back to winning ways on Saturday, but speculation continues to grow over whether Van Bronckhorst should remain manager.

The side sit second in the table to rivals Celtic and have endured a rough start to their Champions League campaign, and Van Bronckhorst’s managerial decisions in particular have come under fire.

Former Gers striker Gordon Dalziel is the latest to question the Dutchman’s thinking, particularly around his team selection.

Speaking to Glasgow radio station Clyde 1, as quoted by Inside Futbol, Dalziel said: If Rangers were playing their biggest game of the season tomorrow I think you’d be all over the place trying to pick their team.

“I’ve no idea what they are trying to do.

“There is no pattern to what they are trying to do.”

GvB needs consistency

Rangers have chopped and changed too much under Van Bronckhorst, with most lineups changing on a weekly basis.

The Dutchman’s signings haven’t made much of an impact since arriving, which has left Van Bronckhorst unsure of his strongest XI.

If he is to keep his job at Ibrox he needs to find it quickly. It’s extremely hard to build momentum when there’s so much uncertainty over who is actually going to step foot onto the pitch.

The international break comes at a great time for GvB to get his plans in order and figure out his strongest XI. When that’s sorted, performances may improve.

The goalkeeping situation is one that needs handling, with Allan McGregor doing more than enough to keep his place in the squad for the near future.

Fitting Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos into the team is another headache. Van Bronckhorst is the man in charge of making the big decisions, so he needs to hurry up and make them.
