Antonio Colak helping Rangers teammates Tom Lawrence, Ryan Kent to showcase potential

Rangers had a mixed time in the 2022-23 campaign and it is not clear where they are exactly heading.

On one hand, the Gers managed to qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League after a gap of more than 12 years but on the other hand, they suffered back-to-back 4-0 defeats in the first Old Firm Derby of the season against Celtic and later against Ajax as well.

On Saturday, it was a rather good outing for Rangers as they secured a 2-1 win against Dundee United at Ibrox Stadium, thanks to a brace from Antonio Colak.

Before the season started, many were doubting the signing of Colak as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos who was expected to depart as he is in the final year of his contract.

However, just a few weeks into the new campaign and the 29-year-old has already shown his worth as an outright striker as he is comfortably the leading goal scorer for the side.

What’s impressive is that he is not only contributing by scoring goals but his hold-up play, which gives room for the likes of Tom Lawrence and Ryan Kent, is also extremely important.

Those players are averaging 3.4 and 2.2 shots on goal per game which is extremely high for wide players and most of it is down to Colak [Whoscored].

They are amongst the five wingers to have the highest shots on goal per game, something that wouldn’t be possible without the Croatia international.

Therefore, as the season is about to enter a crucial phase which might determine the future of manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, fans will be hoping that their new star forward will continue producing similar kinds of performances as he has done in the recent past.

In other Rangers news, the club now had a record-breaking striker on trial at Ibrox and he’s gone on to make headlines in the United Kingdom.
