Alan Rough: Rangers have enough to get a point against Napoli in Champions League group stage

Alan Rough feels that Rangers have enough to secure a point against in-form Napoli at Ibrox on Wednesday evening in matchday two of the Champions League.

The Light Blues head into the fixture off the back of a 4-0 defeat to Ajax whilst the Serie A table toppers are coming off an impressive 4-1 victory over last season’s finalists Liverpool.

However, despite the disparity in form, Rough believes that Rangers do stand a chance at a packed out Ibrox of getting a point.

Talking on the PLZ Football Show [32:30, 12 September], Rough said: “They’ve got a chance to regroup and get their heads round to the Napoli game and if they’re going to get a point I think it’s in this game.

“I am going to go 1-1 for Rangers because of the Ibrox crowd and the fact that the players will still be hurting and if the players are all together, they should put in a fighting show and I think they will do.”

Comes at the right time

After two harrowing away trips for Rangers, getting back to a packed out Ibrox is probably what Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his squad needed.

The Gers are capable of giving anyone a game at Ibrox and should feel confident of making life hard for the Serie A side on Wednesday (14 Septemeber).

A positive result for the Gers will completed shift the mood around the club and get fans back believing in van Bronckhorst and his squad.

When the Champions League groups were drawn, the Gers would’ve been targetting the home fixtures against Napoli and Ajax as their best chance of getting a point.

However, after an eventful matchday one, it now seems as if the Serie A side could be the toughest test they face at Ibrox, after they dismantled Liverpool 4-1.

Potentially the Gers best chance of getting points on the board will be when Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Ibrox or when Ajax make the trip to Scotland.

A point on Wednesday would keep the group all within touching distance and prevent Napoli from moving into a very strong position when it comes to qualifying for the knockout round.

In other Rangers news, this player has admitted he cried when he left Ibrox this summer.
