Giovanni van Bronckhorst comments after Rangers loss v Ajax shows ‘defeatist’ mindset – Gordon Parks

Gordon Parks believes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s comments after Rangers defeat against Ajax showed a “defeatist” attitude.

The Gers suffered a thrashing 4-0 defeat against the reigning Dutch champions in the first match of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

After the match, the 47-year-old said that Rangers need hundreds of millions to compete in a competition like the Champions League.

Gordon was quoted by Daily Record where he stated that Van Bronckhorst must’ve known about the financial constraints at Ibrox.

“It’s always the easy way out to highlight finances,” he said.

“Van Bronckhorst must know Ajax develop their own multi-million superstars and that’s the secret of their success. If he doesn’t feel he can compete in that climate it’s a defeatist attitude, a terrible look.”

Time to move on

Rangers entered the campaign hoping to improve on their last season’s standings where they finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League after losing the final to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

The season started in such a manner which would’ve definitely excited the fans, especially after the Gers secured their place in the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in more than 10 years.

However, last week had a reality check in store for Rangers where they suffered back-to-back defeats against Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the 2022-23 campaign and then later in the Netherlands.

While those results were not great, Van Bronckhorst’s comments made them look even worse because they definitely showed a defeatist mindset.

Rangers now have a week off before they are likely to return to action which would give the players and manager some much-needed time to see why how things could be improved.

In other Rangers news, two points is the best the club can hope for in the Champions League this season according to a talkSPORT pundit.
