Things will turn ugly if Rangers players feel sorry for themselves – Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers players must show some character after suffering humiliating defeats.

The Gers suffered two back-to-back 4-0 defeats against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and Ajax in the Champions League over the past week.

Ferguson, writing in his latest column for the Daily Record, stated that things could go from bad to worse if the players start feeling sorry for themselves.

“If these guys are feeling sorry for themselves then I’ve got a message for them,” he wrote. “If they think this is bad then they had better get their fingers out before they end up in the middle of a full-blown crisis.

“The thought of them [Rangers] performing like that against Napoli and Liverpool is actually terrifying.”

Big games ahead

Rangers came into the season hoping to improve their last season’s performances where they surprised many by cementing their place in the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Even though they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties in that match, the performance definitely gave the fans a lot to be excited about going into this season.

At the beginning of this season, things looked rosy as the Gers secured their place in the Champions League group stage after more than 10 years.

But the last week gave the side a reality check not many expected where they were hammered twice, first by rivals Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the 2022-23 campaign and later by Ajax in their opening fixture of Europe’s elite club competition.

The kind of performances that Rangers showed in those matches have raised alarm bells and if Giovanni van Bronckhorst does not manage to turn it around quickly, things might turn extremely ugly not for the team but also for his own job as well.

In other Rangers news, Calvin Bassey was quick to react to the Champions League debacle as he endured a quiet night against his former teammates.
