Giovanni van Bronckhorst should be careful with passing remarks like he did after Rangers v Ajax
Rangers 2022-23 season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride already despite the campaign starting just less than two months ago.
The Gers have already seen the highs of securing their place in the group stages of the Champions League for the first time in 12 years.
But they have also seen the lows of suffering back-to-back thrashings against Celtic in the league and against Ajax in Europe’s elite club competition.

Careful
Following the defeat on Wednesday against Ajax, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said that his players knew that the outing would be difficult as it takes hundreds of millions to compete at such a level.
While that comment in essence is not wrong as it is definitely hard to compete against the sides who invest heavily every year, strengthening their squads, for a team like Rangers who hardly invested any money in their contingent.
But those words coming from a manager so early in the competition where there are still five matches remaining is not a good sign.
Van Bronckhorst’s comments can be used as an excuse by his players to produce sub-par performances, just like they did against the reigning Dutch champions.

That was not the first time the Gers players refused to show up as they did a similar thing when they suffered a humiliating defeat in the first Old Firm derby of the 2022-23 campaign at the weekend.
Therefore, Van Bronckhorst should look at the sackings of Scott Parker from Bournemouth and Thomas Tuchel from Chelsea which shows that management in football remains a tricky business and if the bad results are not turned into better ones then no matter how big of a name you are, your job will remain at risk.
