Calvin Bassey reacts to ‘special night’ as Rangers beaten by Ajax
Rangers suffered their second 4-0 humbling of the week on Wednesday evening as Dutch champions Ajax ran riot in Amsterdam.
Edson Alvarez started the demolition before Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus quickly put the game beyond Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side as Steven Bergwijn added the fourth.
The European humbling comes days after Celtic also took the Light Blues apart in the Premiership but former Bears defender Calvin Bassey wasn’t interested.
The Nigerian international joined Ajax over the summer for a fee in excess of £20million from Rangers and took to Twitter the following day after his new side’s destruction of the Scottish Cup champions.
“God is great. Special night for me yesterday. Good to get the win and was nice to see so many familiar faces,” Bassey said.
Big miss
With Bassey in the side, there is no way that either Ajax or Celtic put four past the Gers even with the lacklustre Jon McLaughlin in between the sticks.
The new Rangers number one is now under serious pressure to keep his place at Ibrox with the seasoned veteran Allan McGregor breathing down his neck more and more every day.

He isn’t the only one whose job is under threat though because the previous two performances and subsequent results have been nothing short of awful.
van Bronckhorst already needs another one of his watershed moments similar to that he had after his last Celtic Park humiliation to turn this ship around yet again.
It seems to be a problem with games that aren’t knockout rounds because they haven’t had any issues in making remarkable comebacks and top-drawer performances in those games.
Failure to turn things around will only end badly for van Bronckhorst and you have to wonder if the board are already scouring the world of football for a replacement.
In other Rangers news, Dave King has gone in on his successor at Ibro, Douglas Park, after what happened over the summer.
