Ally McCoist loses it live on BT Sport as Rangers thumped by Ajax in Champions League opener
Ally McCoist was left absolutely furious at Rangers after they were thumped 4-0 by Ajax in the Champions League opener on Wednesday.
The Gers found themselves 3-0 down at half-time for the second consecutive game after the Celtic thrashing at the weekend, and lost 4-0 again after a second half strike in Amsterdam.
But McCoist couldn’t contain his fury during half-time while he appeared on BT Sport as a pundit for the game, calling the defending “horrendous” and calling out several players for their roles in the mess.
“You’d never have known [7 of the 11 started in Europa League final],” he said.
“That’s really poor. Really, really poor. There’s no spirit. It doesn’t look as though there is any fight. There certainly a lack of belief if not no belief at all.
“Two of the three goals defensively have been horrendous, you can argue the second one is fortunate.
“But where do you start? There’s just absolutely no positives at all. It’s been a really, really poor 45 minutes which has just been a continuation from the weekend.
“Sands has got to attack it Darrell. He’s got to attack it. Goldson’s in front of him. Alvarez actually walks on to Sands. The problem is, and I keep barking on about it, you lose Balogun, you lose Aribo and you lose Bassey you lose three good players. But you lose a real physicality. You lose defensive strength at set plays.
“You’ve only got one player in your team, right now looking at that Rangers team, you’ve got one player, and he’s not been great at it by the way, and that’s Goldson, who looks capable of winning a defensive header.
“In the modern day, in the modern game, particularly at set plays, that is not good enough. That’s a terrible goal to lose.
“They get a bit fortunate with a few breaks, but Barisic has got to get out to him. He’s got to get out to him quicker.”

Shocker
Ally summed it up at half-time perfectly and the second half was just as bad, so all the criticism is still warranted.
Rangers looked completely lost on the pitch and despite having what many would say is their strongest side out there, they were way off the pace and way down a level from Ajax.
After watching the Old Firm at the weekend be followed up with that, the fans have every right to question the players’ commitment and work rate and whether they deserve to wear the shirt anymore.
Considering the high of the win over PSV Eindhoven in the last couple of weeks, the club have hit a major low now and all the players and the manager should be under pressure for their places.
It’s absolutely shocking from everyone involved and they deserve all the criticism that’s going to come their way over the next few days before Aberdeen.
