Tam McManus: Rangers should have sold Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos

Tam McManus believes that Rangers should have sold Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos this summer and suggested that the club haven’t recruited well enough.

Both players were linked with moves away from Ibrox this summer with their current deals at Ibrox expiring in the summer of 2023.

McManus feels that the club made a mistake in not letting them leave with Morelos “always unfit” and Kent in “poor” form.

Talking on the PLZ Football Show [9:09, 5 September], McManus said: “Rangers haven’t recruited well enough.

“You look at Alfredo Morelos and you look at Ryan Kent and it’s looking like they should’ve sold them because Morelos is always unfit and Kent has been poor.

“They’re both entering the final year of their contract, I don’t see them signing a new deal, either of them.

“Rangers need more from them, particularly Ryan Kent, he looks good at times but he has no end product.”

January move?

It’s been a far from ideal start to the season for the Rangers pair, with Kent struggling to find any goalscoring form and Morelos displaying yet more ill-discipline.

Both players have been excellent servants for the Gers over recent years, but their time at Ibrox could well be reaching its natural conclusion.

It seems unlikely that the club will come to a new agreement with either player, which could well see a January move materialise for the pair.

Rangers will be keen to recoup a transfer fee, and clubs will be showing interest in potentially landing a cut-price deal.

Both players are important to Rangers, but ultimately, the club need to make the best decision financially.

The Ibrox faithful will be hoping that their upcoming Champions League campaign can kickstart their season into life and in turn see Kent find some much-needed goalscoring form.

A couple of positive results in the Champions League could season Rangers’ domestic campaign get back on track.

In other Rangers news, Ronald De Boer has been waxing lyrical himself about van Bronckhorst’s achievements at Ibrox so far.
