Rangers players must take ‘some responsibility’ of Celtic thrashing – Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers players must take “some responsibility” after the team’s trashing against Celtic at the weekend.

The Gers suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against the Hoops in the first Old Firm Derby of the 2022-23 Scottish Premiership campaign.

Speaking about it on the Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson stated that he never thought that the visitors would be simply “blown away” by Celtic.

“The players need to take some responsibility,” he said.

“I know the manager puts a team out there in terms of tactics and formation, the players have got to take responsibility and at the end of the day, Celtic blew them away at the weekend, which I never saw coming.

“I knew it was going to be a tough place to go and get a result. But I didn’t think it was going to be what happened on Saturday.”

Horrible

Rangers started their campaign hoping to improve on what they did in the last season where they finished as the runners-up in the Europa League after losing the final to Eintracht Frankfurt and winning the Scottish Cup.

In the first few weeks of the season, it almost felt like this season will going to be a better one than the last, especially after the Gers secured their place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time after a decade-long exile from Europe’s elite club competition.

However, at the weekend, the side had a harsh reality check where they were just no way near good enough to compete against their fiercest local rivals.

It is now the responsibility of Giovanni van Bronckhorst to ensure that the players will have the belief to bounce back from such an outing and secure a positive result in the upcoming matches, especially in a week where they will have to travel and face Dutch champions Ajax.
