Ben Davies pictured back in training ahead of Rangers Champions League showdown v Ajax
Rangers have been boosted ahead of their Champions League showdown with Ajax after Ben Davies was pictured back in training, via the Daily Record.
The Gers signed Davies from Liverpool in the summer to help replace Calvin Bassey, who joined Ajax in a £20m deal during the transfer window, but he has so far been restricted to just two appearances and none in the Scottish Premiership.
But after the 4-0 thrashing by Celtic at the weekend Giovanni van Bronckhorst could look to make changes to his defence, and Davies’ return to training could be great news.

Davies picked up an injury in his first start for the club against St Johnstone and hasn’t featured since, missing the Champions League qualifiers against PSV as well as the Old Firm clash.
But the Daily Record [6 September] have him pictured back in the fold with the first-team and speculate that he could return to the side for the trip to Amsterdam on Wednesday night.
Changes
There has to be changes for this game, and they have to start at the back end of the pitch because what we saw on Saturday was simply unacceptable.
James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have got more than enough credit in the bank, and they’re regular level of performance far exceeds that of any competition in the squad but the rest should all have their heads on a swivel.

James Sands has struggled at times this season, while Borna Barisic has proven in the past that he isn’t reliable across an entire season and Allan McGregor’s shadow is breathing down the throat of Jon McLaughlin in goal.
Davies provides a natural and obvious change in defence that would see Sands drop out most likely, and if he is fit enough to start then it’s certainly a change that the manager should be seriously considering.
The summer window was deemed a success because it gave the manager options, but that’s useless if he won’t use them and this is a chance to do that.
