Giovanni van Bronckhorst must start Scott Wright over Malik Tillman for Rangers clash v Ajax

Giovanni van Bronckhorst should consider starting Rangers attacker Scott Wright in the Light Blue’s Champions League opener against Ajax on Wednesday evening.

American attacker Malik Tillman should be the man to make way after a disappointing display at Parkhead on Saturday (3 September).

The winger could be better suited to operating in the number ten position, which was suggested by Neil McCann on BBC Sportscence [18:48, 3 September].

Wright hasn’t been as prolific in recent weeks, but the 25-year-old has energy and tenacity that could be exactly what van Bronckhorst needs from his player for their trip to the Eredivisie giants.

None of the Gers players can come out of the match against Celtic with any credit, which is why the Gers boss has to shuffle the pack as they get their European adventure underway.

Scott Arfield is another player that can count himself extremely unlucky not to be featuring more often after showing some good goalscoring form during the opening months of the season.

Steven Davis partnered John Lundstram at the heart of the midfield at Celtic Park and struggled to set the tempo of the game like he usually does.

Arfield would’ve provided the Gers with a far more energetic option, who can also chip in with the odd goal from midfield, and with Tom Lawrence potentially still sidelined, it’s important that there is still a goalscoring threat from midfield.

Van Bronckhorst’s team selection in Amsterdam will be intriguing. It will be telling to see if he sticks with the players who failed him in the Old Firm clash or whether he rings the changes and makes a statement to his squad after their abject display on Saturday (3 September).
