Rangers Old Firm defeat rubbed in by Celtic-mad Steve Evans

Rangers will have been hurting as they made the short trip back to Ibrox on Saturday after being humiliated by their Old Firm rivals.

Celtic ran out 4-0 winners at Parkhead with goals from Liel Abada, Jota and David Turnbull and later that evening, they will have seen what Hoops-mad Steve Evans said.

The Stevenage manager enjoyed his Saturday as he saw his Boro side come from behind to win 2-1 away at Crewe Alexandra and keep them right in the mix at the top of the English League Two table.

But his thoughts were equally split between the Mornflake Stadium and Glasgow as he couldn’t hide his joy in his post-match comments in South Cheshire.

“It’s a great day when we win away from home and Celtic beat Rangers!” the seasoned lower league manager said, as quoted by Stevenage on Twitter, before delving into his own team’s performance.

Day in the sun

Celtic can enjoy their victory as much as they like but Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will know that there is an awful lot of football still to be played.

Ange Postecoglu’s side are still to come to Ibrox later in the campaign and things will not be as easy then so even though there is now a five-point gap between the two great rivals, there is no need to panic yet.

European games coming up will test the depth of both squads when coupled with Premiership games and League Cup ties as well and Rangers may well be better placed to deal with that, as was evident last season as they maintained their assault on three fronts.

van Bronckhorst won’t have wanted to be playing catch-up this early on but the good thing is there is plenty of time to do so which should ease any clenching that the Dutchman is doing when he looks at that league table so far.

In other Rangers news, one of the glaringly obvious issues that was not resolved in the transfer window came to roost against the Hoops.
