Rangers have paid the price for failing to sign a goalkeeper

Rangers were once again humiliated at Parkhead on Saturday as Celtic ran out 4-0 winners in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Liel Abada scored twice to add to goals from Jota and David Turnbull which sent Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side back to Ibrox with their tails between their legs and no points to show for their efforts.

And while the outfield players can hang their heads in shame there was another glaringly obvious issue that many saw coming way before the Hoops demolished the Light Blues.

Jon McLaughlin’s performance between the sticks was nothing short of abysmal and van Bronckhorst should be dropping him from the starting XI entirely and Allan McGregor reinstated as the number one.

The problem is that he too is not anywhere near good enough to be the main man anymore but one of them has to be because there is no other option at the club.,

Robby McCrorie could well be the only one who takes the gloves but inexperience may be an issue so why did the club not try to bring in a new goalkeeper over the summer?

It was almost as if they forgot that the goalkeeper was a position in football because it was obvious to many that it was a weak area for Rangers.

The club were far too relaxed about their squad heading into the final few days and should have looked to make moves as the hours ticked down on 1 September.

But they did nothing and now they have to suffer until January when the transfer window reopens and hope that a significant upgrade becomes available.

In other Rangers news, this Gers midfielder has been labelled as invaluable to van Bronckhorst after a fantastic run of form that goes as far back as last season.
