Ally McCoist stunned by Borna Barisic quality in Rangers clash v Celtic

Ally McCoist was left stunned by the quality of delivery on show from Rangers defender Borna Barisic in the opening half of the Old Firm against Celtic.

It was a first half with no real great moments with the standout moments coming from the Croatian’s left foot, showing just how bad it was.

Rangers were shocking defensively and switched off far too many times, leaving Liel Abada and Jota to capitalise with three goals throughout the half.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash, McCoist picked out one of the few positives that he saw from the disappointing opening half.

“You’re not wrong,” he said.

“These are absolutely delicious balls he’s putting into the box.”

Delicious.

Yes, the balls in were brilliant, but this says it all.

How can the only highlight of 45 minutes of an Old Firm be a couple of crosses into the box?

It simply wasn’t good enough and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to be absolutely losing his mind in the dressing room at halftime because it was embarrassing yet again at Celtic Park.

What on earth were they doing?

Time after time, the entire squad switched off and they were punished. Doing the same thing every time is simply idiocy, and these players never learned.

It was the same last season, and it has happened again, so it has to be a mentality thing in a game such as this because there is no other reason for the schoolboy stuff that was on show.

Even Barisic cannot escape blame for his defending just because of a couple of crosses, the entire squad needs a good hiding, although there won’t be much point given that this game is already gone.

In other Rangers news, another brand new transfer is still on the cards at Ibrox outside of the window
