Rangers unlikely to sell Glen Kamara before transfer deadline amid Nice interest

Rangers won’t sell Glen Kamara to Nice on transfer deadline day unless they have a replacement already lined up, according to Fraser Fletcher.

The Gers have seen two key players leave this summer with Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo joining Ajax and Southampton respectively, but Kamara has attracted interest from several clubs around Europe.

After rejecting bids from Turkey earlier in the window, reports on 1 September claim that Ligue 1 club Nice are set to make a £10m move but former BBC journalist Fletcher says the club don’t expect him to leave.

“Nice ready to try a get Glenn Kamara before the deadline tonight. Do not see Rangers selling this late, unless they already have a replacement,” he said on his personal Twitter account.

Kamara started the midweek cup win over Queen of the South and could keep his place for the weekend clash with Celtic should he remain at the club.

Good stuff

Rangers have had an excellent summer transfer window when you consider they only lost two key players from last season’s Europa League final squad, and brought in several players to strengthen.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has made it his mission to make the team stronger to be able to compete on all fronts this season and Champions League football certainly made it easier to do that.

Kamara is an all action midfielder who can perform all the roles that the boss wants his midfielders to do, and that makes him a key part of the squad even if he doesn’t start as regularly or as often as he’d like to.

But Rangers need a squad of players to be able to topple Celtic and actually compete in Europe this season and that makes Kamara key.

Unless a big offer arrives or an adequate replacement can be lined up in time (don’t say Ross Barkley) then this should be a non starter.
