Rangers definitely in the market for multiple late signings, FC Midtjylland’s Evander a target

Rangers are in the market to make signings before the transfer window shuts and Evander is confirmed as a target, according to The 4th Official.

With space cleared or about to be cleared of unwanted players after Mateusz Zukowski and Nikola Katic agreed exits and with Stephen Kelly on the brink of one, the reliable online source has reported on Patreon that the Gers are looking to add multiple players before the end of Thursday (1 September).

FC Midtjylland midfielder Evander is on the list, with T4O hearing via independent sources that the Brazilian was of interest despite denials from the club, although they have been able to uncover how intense that interest is.

What they are clear about it is that there is definite potential for new arrivals at Ibrox this week, saying: “Make no mistake; Rangers are in the market and if someone asked me yesterday morning, how many players the club will end up bringing, I would have said ‘at least 2’.”

The versatile Evander, 24, looks like someone who would fit the bill for Giovanni van Bronckhorst if the previous pursuit of Nicolas Raskin indicates that central midfield is where the Dutch coach wants to strengthen.

The Brazilian is versatile enough to play further forward and out wide so would give the manager options, and his goal involvement is strong from midfield, having scored 44 times and assisted 34 more for the Danish club despite playing primarily from deep.

Who else is on the list on the final day is yet to become clear but with Zukowski on his way out there could be a gap at right back.

The ever-present nature of captain James Tavernier makes a specialist back-up at the position somewhat obsolete, so another option who can also cover elsewhere could make sense, while Ross Barkley is now a free agent but may not be what they need.

The striker situation has been admirably handled more or less solo by new arrival Antonio Colak, but an injury to him would leave the squad at the whims of Kemar Roofe’s fitness and Alfredo Morelos’ interest, and more help there never goes amiss.

The Colombian has met with the manager to discuss being dropped from the squad and it appears things went positively enough for him to now be on track to return.

Should he get back to the peak of his powers there will be far less need for striker help between El Bufalo and Colak, with the potential for plenty of goals between the pair.

In other Rangers news, the manager has taken a pasting on talkSPORT ahead of what is claimed to be a heavy upcoming defeat against Celtic.
