Time to go

After spending last season out on loan it makes sense for the 25-year-old to leave the Gers after falling down the pecking order at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a good array of defensive options to choose from with James Sands, Ben Davies, Connor Goldson, Leon King and John Souttar to choose from.

Considering Katic’s age, it is important that he is playing football in the prime of his career and his Ibrox exit makes sense for all parties.

Rangers look unlikely to add another player to their ranks this summer, but Katic’s exit will allow van Bronckhorst room to play with when the January transfer window comes around.

The Gers boss also has plenty of youngsters that he should start to integrate into his first team squad, much like he did in Rangers’ 3-1 Scottish League Cup win over Queen of the South on Tuesday evening (30 August).

Having fewer senior players will allow for more opportunities for youngsters to shine and that was certainly the case at Ibrox last night.

It’s time for the Gers to start incorporating youth and allowing older players who are rarely used to leave Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, this Gers man has been offered to Fenerbahce by his agent as his Ibrox future hangs by a thread.
