Academy trio Adam Devine, Leon King and Robbie Ure set to start for Rangers v Queen of the South

Rangers are set to start academy trio Adam Devine, Leon King and Robbie Ure in their Scottish League Cup clash against Queen of the South tonight, according to The Athletic.

The Gers are set to make wholesale changes to take on the third tier side, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst planning on giving his first-team regulars a break following the hectic schedule and ahead of the Old Firm derby this weekend.

Journalist Jordan Campbell of The Athletic gave fans something to look forward to ahead of the game, when he reported on Tuesday morning [30 August] that a trio of academy aces are set to start the game.

“Expecting to see a fresh Rangers side tonight with Adam Devine, Leon King & Robbie Ure all set to play vs [Queen of the South].

“Alex Lowry is likely to be out for several weeks with the knee injury sustained from that tackle vs Dumbarton so not available after getting back up to speed.”

Excitement

Rangers should win this game comfortably regardless of what team they put out, but Van Bronckhorst is smart to use it as a game to play youngsters and give fringe players some much needed minutes.

King has already featured in the first team on occasion this season at centre-back while the boss figures out his strongest pairing alongside Connor Goldson, while Devine is seen as the new understudy to James Tavernier since Nathan Patterson’s departure.

Ure is a talented centre forward who has had some of the shine taken away from him by the likes of Rory Wilson and Zak Lovelace recently, but he has the quality to make an impression against this level of opposition.

With Alfredo Morelos suspended and out of the squad thanks to attitude problems anyway, and Antonio Colak to be rested while Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe’s futures are up in the air, it’s a good chance for Ure to shine.
