Rangers move for Nicolas Raskin set to collapse – reliable journalist

Rangers are set to miss out on signing Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin with a move unlikely, according to Bob Faesen.

The Light Blues were hoping to negotiate down the Belgian club’s asking price of £4.6million, as reported by The 4th Official, 28 August, as the 21-year-old has just one year left on his contract at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

The 4th Official also reported on 28 August that the Belgian was keen on the move to Ibrox but this latest news makes it seem as if the two clubs have not agreed on a price.

“Nicolas Raskin will not move to Rangers FC this summer,” Faesen, a journalist for HLN Sport, said via his personal Twitter account. “At the moment, the midfielder seems to be staying in Liège.”

The 21-year-old has already played several games for Liege this season to suggest that manager Ronny Deila, formerly of Celtic, is not willing to let him go with only four days left of the transfer window.

When Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks at his squad, he should be very content that he doesn’t need any further additions unless they are going to drastically improve one position.

Malik Tillman, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence have all arrived in Glasgow and hit the ground running while John Souttar and Ben Davies are settling and battling for the slot alongside Connor Goldson.

Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz are perhaps slightly further behind the rest of the summer recruits but having only lost Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey from last season, the squad is certainly better off.

Raskin would have to be a genuine world-class talent to walk into Rangers and start straight away with so many different midfield options already at the club’s disposal.

And if he is still at Standard Liege at 21 years of age, he probably isn’t all that good and worth avoiding if he is going to cost anywhere above £2million right now.
