Rangers: Keith Jackson demands Alfredo Morelos knuckles down or be sold

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is being tested to the limit by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Keith Jackson wants to see a reaction.

The Colombian was exiled from the squad to travel to Holland for the Champions League playoff against PSV Eindhoven and again in the 4-0 Premiership win against Ross County.

The boss cited Morelos’ attitude as the main problem and reason for his exclusion and Jackson thinks the next few days before the transfer deadline will be vital.

“When he’s good he’s close to priceless. But when he’s bad he’s more trouble than he’s worth,” Jackson said to the Daily Record.

“Over the course of the next three days, it will become obvious how the Dutchman has decided to deal with this notoriously combustible Colombian. Morelos will either be sold before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night and become some other manager’s problem to solve.

“Or he will knuckle down under van Bronckhorst and finally achieve his long, burning ambition by showcasing his undoubted talents on the greatest stage of them all in the Champions League?

“That Rangers got there by dismantling PSV Eindhoven without him should serve as a wake-up call for the 26-year-old.”

Cash in

With Antonio Colak turning up to Ibrox and firing the goals in here, there and everywhere, Morelos is no longer the top dog and with only 12 months left on his contract, now is the time to sell.

That diminishing contract length may prevent it though if no club wants to match whatever price Rangers ask for because they know they can approach him in January on a free transfer.

But he is no use to anybody if he is just going to train on his own and not play at all so some kind of settlement will have to be reached between the manager and the player to resolve this unnecessary situation.

He will also be costing the club a hefty amount in wages that could be going on a new signing so if he isn’t in the Dutchman’s plans, then he has to be sold no matter the price offered.

It is worth Ross Wilson lowering the asking price to ensure he leaves now rather than after siphoning a year’s wages from the club and going for nothing in 2023.

In other Rangers news, this £4.6million transfer chase looks to have hit a roadblock which may deny the Gers their eighth summer signing.
