Rangers have wasted Mateusz Zukowski talent as Ibrox exit nears

There was a lot of excitement when Polish youngster Mateusz Zukowski arrived at Rangers from Lechia Gdansk in the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old right-back has been very patient during his time at Ibrox having made just one appearance in the Scottish Cup over the back end of last season.

He has been victim to the outstanding form and leadership of James Tavernier who has now signed a new long-term deal to remain the club’s captain and that has sparked Rangers into a potential sale of the Pole.

According to Meczyki journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk, Lech Poznan are now interested in signing the youngster which would see his time in Scotland end very quickly.

“Lech Poznań interested in bringing Mateusz Żukowski from Glasgow Rangers,” he said via Twitter, “The 20-year-old has been on the lists of “Kolejorz” for a long time. In the past, even before his transfer to Scotland, people thought about bringing him from Lechia.”

It would be a massive shame if this ended up being a permanent transfer because Zukowski has not done a single thing wrong ever since his £400,000 move to Glasgow from his homeland and city of Gdansk.

He is not likely to ever usurp Tavernier and if he stays for the duration of this contract at Ibrox then Zukowski will be long gone but this move, should it happen has to be a loan move.

Rangers

There is no reason to immediately sell the Pole just months after the club have spent money to sign him and especially as he has not been given a proper runout in the Premiership.

He could have played the final game of last season rather than Adam Devine but Giovanni van Bronckhorst opted not to and that may be a mistake that won’t be realised for some years.
