James Sands stinker gets 4/10, Antonio Colak brace earns 9/10 – Rangers player ratings vs Ross County
Rangers celebrated their Champions League qualification with a dominant and spectacular 4-0 win over Ross County at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
The Gers turned in a brilliant performance in the Premiership on their return to action, and came away with an emphatic win thanks to goals from John Lundstram, an Antonio Colak brace and a Steven Davis strike.
But who were the best players on the pitch? And who struggled despite having little to do? Here’s how Ibrox News rated each player’s performance in the game…
Jon McLaughlin – 6/10
The new number one didn’t have much to do but what he did need to do, he did flawlessly. Distribution was good, communicated well with his defenders and was also able to claim crosses well. A solid performance.
James Tavernier – 7/10
The skipper was a constant threat bombing down the right hand side once again as has become customary with him, and he should’ve scored with a header from a yard out that crashed the bar instead. A leaders performance and surely earned his rest for the midweek cup game now.
Connor Goldson – 7/10
Dominant performance from the centre half, who continues to be the glue of the defensive line at Ibrox. Arguably the signing of the summer was getting him on new terms
James Sands – 4/10
The American has been impressive this season and established himself in the starting lineup, but he had a rough half and was lucky not to be sent off for hauling the striker down on the halfway line. Was hooked at half-time for his own safety, and luckily it didn’t affect the scoreline.
Borna Barisic – 7/10
After a tough season last year, Barisic has come back into the side this year and is proving many of his doubters wrong with some excellent showings and that continued here. Bombing down the left and consistently backing up his winger, while also being astute defensively. Deserves his place right now.
John Lundstram – 8/10
Without a doubt Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s first choice midfielder and with good reason too. The only defensive minded midfielder on the pitch today but he was everywhere once again and even chipped in with a goal. A key player in this machine.
Tom Lawrence – 7/10
There was some scepticism over his signing in the summer, but Lawrence is proving his worth after a small change of role in recent weeks. His ability in possession is great, his shooting is a threat constantly and he always works hard. Great awareness to leave the ball for Davis’ goal too.
Malik Tillman – 8/10
Another star showing from the young American loanee, who was in a slightly deeper role for this game and controlled the tempo throughout. Was sharp, creative and even unlucky not to score in the first half before being substituted on the hour. One of the first names on the team sheet now.
Scott Wright – 7/10
A lightning fast winger he was incredibly dangerous throughout the first half, beating his man with ease and making the right decisions constantly. He lacked end product but overall did what he was on the pitch for and justified his selection.
Antonio Colak – 9/10
Today’s man of the match without a doubt was the number nine, who got two and could have had four. His overall play was sensational, holding off defenders and linking with the midfield while also proving to be a ruthless finisher. What a signing he has been for Rangers.
Ryan Kent – 8/10
Kent was back to his best in this game, running riot down the left hand side and linking up with fellow attackers to cause plenty of issues for the defenders. Was unfortunate not to score when his curling effort was cleared off the line, but an electric performance nonetheless.
SUBSTITUTES
Leon King – 6/10
The youngster came on in place of Sands and was flawless once again, with very little to do during the second half. Growing in confidence and his switch of play led to the fourth goal. A solid performance.
Scott Arfield – 6/10
The experienced midfielder and kept the tempo up after coming on and ensured standards didn’t slip despite the dominant performance. Done his job well, despite nothing of note happening for him.
Rabbi Matondo – 5/10
He came on once the game was already won, but struggled to make an impact in the same way that Kent was earlier in the half. Clearly got ability, but it’s not quite clicking for him just yet in a blue shirt.
Steven Davis – 7/10
Legend and still going. Came on for the striker and was able to get a goal from deep in midfield with a nice left-footed finish as he rolled back the years. Great option for the Rangers squad.
