Rangers former defender Calvin Bassey reacts to Champions League draw
Rangers former defender Calvin Bassey has reacted to the possibility of a return to Ibrox after Thursday’s Champions League draw.
The Gers, who confirmed Champions League qualification after beating PSV on 23 August, were drawn in Group A with last year’s finalists Liverpool, Italian giants Napoli and Eredivise champions Ajax.
The draw will see Bassey, who joined Ajax earlier in the window for £23m, return to the club where he made his name, and the 22-year-old reacted to the dream return with a tweet on the Ajax Twitter page. [Ajax]
Bassey is coming home.
The draw gives Bassey and Rangers fans the chance to see each other again for the first time since the 22-year-old left the club.
The Nigerian international, who joined Rangers from Leicester City in 2020, made himself a fans favourite during his time at the club.
During his two years at the club, made 65 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and providing six assists during that time.

His performances at left-back and centre-back helped the club win the Scottish Championship and the Scottish Cup the following year.
The Gers will be beaming to be back in Europe’s top competition, but the chance to be reunited with an old friend is also an exciting prospect.
It was a great draw for the Gers and the club will be counting the days until the group stage kicks off later in the season so the Scottish giants can continue to re-announce themselves on the European scene.
