Calvin Bassey reacts with two words as Rangers beat PSV to qualify for Champions League group stages
By Sean Fisher
Former Rangers star Calvin Bassey simply couldn’t resist leaving a supportive message on the club’s Instagram post after their vital 1-0 victory over PSV.
Rangers ended their 12-year drought for Champions League football on Wednesday night, with Antonio Colak’s goal on the hour mark enough to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory over Dutch side PSV.
Fans can now eagerly await the Champions League Group Stage draw on August 25, with Rangers boasting a spot in pot four – the same as rivals Celtic.

With Rangers finally returning to Europe’s elite competition, there was an abundance of celebrations on Wednesday night, and former Gers star Bassey couldn’t resist joining in.
The 22-year-old centre-back left a comment on the club’s Instagram post reading, “Congrats Gers”.

Once a blue, always a blue
Despite only recently making a £19.6million move to Ajax, Bassey’s memories at Ibrox still evidently live fresh in the memory.
And who could blame him?
The Nigerian international was a fan favourite in Glasgow having impressed during his two years at the club. Bassey’s stellar 2021/22 season resulted in him being named as the club’s Player of the Year, and his presence in defence will be sorely missed during the new season.
Bassey was a pivotal part of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s plans at Ibrox, and was crucial in the club’s incredible run in Europe last season which included wins over Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
His transfer fee will always be appreciated, but it’ll hardly live up to his impact in the blue of Rangers.
But who knows – with Champions League football now secured, Rangers can always hope that Bassey’s admiration of the club results in a blockbuster return.
In other Rangers news, an old tweet by Michael Stewart has surfaced in the wake of the win over PSV that’ll haunt him all season.
