Gabby Agbonlahor makes Rangers admission on talkSPORT after win v PSV

Rangers caused an upset by beating PSV 1-0 on Wednesday night – and talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor was left impressed with the side’s ability to perform in big games.

Antonio Colak scored the only goal on Wednesday evening as Rangers beat PSV 3-2 on aggregate to end their 12-year Champions League drought.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side headed to the Netherlands as underdogs after the 2-2 draw in the first leg, but Rangers put on a typically entertaining display on Europe’s biggest stage – something the Scottish side have done frequently in recent years.

Shock wins over Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig last year played a crucial part in Rangers’ superb Europa League run, and the team seem to thrive in high-pressure situations.

Agbonlahor is one of many to have picked up on the pattern, and he heaped praise on Rangers for their ability to perform in big games.

“It’s great for Scottish football, and they turn up don’t they?” said Agbonlahor during talkSPORT’s Thursday morning show.

“There’s something about Rangers in these big games. They turn up, and even when they scored the goal last night they looked comfortable defending.”

Great for Scottish football

Agbonlahor said it best – Rangers’ win on Wednesday was a monumental moment for Scottish football.

Rangers being back in Europe’s elite tournament has been a long time coming, and they will be a team many will want to avoid during Thursday’s Group Stage draw.

The never say die attitude of the club has caused plenty of top teams heaps of problems over the years, and it’ll be incredibly hard for anyone to come away from Ibrox with points when the ground is at its boisterous best.

What’s more, Champions League qualification comes with plenty of financial perks, and Rangers will be keen to add to their squad now that they have the lure of Champions League football up their sleeve.

The rivalry with Celtic will only spur Rangers on more. Outperforming their Glaswegian rivals in Europe has become something of a habit recently, and the Gers will be keen to show they can do it again this season.

In other Rangers news, the Dutch newspapers have reacted to the win over PSV.
