Rangers shelve talks over new contract with Alfredo Morelos

Rangers have shelved talks over a new deal for Alfredo Morelos after concerns over his attitude and fitness levels saw him left out of the clash against PSV Eindhoven.

The Colombian was left out by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who said it was an “easy decision” that had been building for a while, and the decision has been backed by several online including Chris Sutton.

But it’s now come to light that the club have also decided to stop contract talks with the striker, despite him entering the final 12 months of his current deal this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing in the article on August 24th, they say;  “Now in the final year of his contract, talks over a new deal have been shelved, with questions over the striker’s value after concerns over his fitness and attitude become public.”

With the transfer deadline looming in just eight days, the club could look to cash in on their prolific talisman in order to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing next summer.

This is a situation that has clearly been bubbling behind the scenes for a while and has now come to a head, with the club taking a firm stance against him.

With Antonio Colak signing in the summer and performing well so far this season, leading the club’s scoring charts so far, they have been allowed the opportunity to get tough with Morelos and show him that he isn’t bigger than the club.

Granted the player is returning from a serious injury, but his attitude being questioned tells you that his head may be elsewhere and if that’s the case then he’s better off elsewhere rather than at Ibrox.

This club is bigger than any single player and regardless of his goal contributions over the years, if he’s not willing to work hard for the badge then it’s better that he leaves.

It’s a decision that must be made quickly with the deadline so close, but it must also be well thought out not to leave us short. But the next week is likely to be lively and as usual, Morelos will be at the centre of it all.
