Rabbi Matondo axed, Robbie Ure on bench – Rangers confirmed starting XI v PSV

Rangers have confirmed their starting line-up for the second leg of their Champions League qualifying clash against PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday night.

As confirmed on Twitter prior to kick-off in the Netherlands on 24 August, midfielder Glen Kamara returns to the team replacing Ryan Jack with Rabbi Matondo being replaced by American ace Malik Tillman.

The Gers will be without Alfredo Morelos who has been dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons so Antonio Colak will continue to lead the line.

Interestingly, 18-year-old striker Robbie Ure is on the bench. It’s the first time he’s ever been involved in a senior match for the Light Blues.

The Gers have it all to do in the second leg of this Champions League qualifying clash, after drawing 2-2 in the first leg at Ibrox over a week ago.

Van Bronckhorst’s team had more possession, played more passes, and had more shots on target than the Dutch giants.

However, after coming back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 on the night, a late equaliser from Armando Obispo in the first leg means they now go to Holland tied at 2-2 on aggregate.

Admittedly, the Gers will be arriving at the Phillips Stadium as underdogs, with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side starting the season unbeaten in all competitions.

They will also be refreshed as they have not had a game to play since the first leg on 16 August, but the uphill task will not phase the Gers who have developed a reputation for producing special performances in European competitions.

Even when the odds are stacked against them, the Gers have seemed to find a way to win and they will need to produce a moment of magic against Holland if they are to advance into the group stages of the Champions League.
