Rangers: McFarlane rages at ‘national embarrassment’ as Alex Lowry horror footage emerges

Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane was seething with Ally Love’s “horrific” challenge on starlet Alex Lowry on Tuesday night as the B team beat Dumbarton.

Lowry, 19, was viciously sythed down by 31-year-old Love in the latter stages of the young Gers’ 7-0 Challenge Cup victory, a game in which he’d scored a hat-trick.

Love was merely booked for his shocking, two-footer, which McFarlane shared footage of via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (23 August).

“This challenge on Alex Lowry tonight is horrific,” said the journalist, who’s also written for The National.

“Disgracefully only a yellow card was given.

“When will we learn about protecting our technical players?

“A national embarrassment.”

Rangers

Disgusting

Lowry is a talented young player who ran rings around Love and his Dumbarton teammates on Tuesday night.

The former Clyde player should be absolutely ashamed of his challenge, as it left Lowry being stretchered off and now facing a scan on his knee to find out the extent of the injury.

The Scottish Sun claims that Rangers are fearful over the young talent’s situation but coaches hope he can make a quick recovery.

Rangers B coach David McCallum is furious though – and he has every right to be.

He told Heart and Hand podcast that he’s “angry” and slammed Love’s “bad tackle” – although we feel as though McCallum was holding back what he actually thought about the Dumbarton thug.

Love is a player who shouldn’t be anywhere near Scottish football.

He’s previously been banned for making racist remarks [BBC Sport] so we have no idea why any club would want to sign him.

It’s disgusting he was only booked and there should be further punishment for someone who deserves a really long ban from the game.

In other Rangers news, four senior players have been ruled out of the second leg showdown with PSV.
