Rangers early team news v PSV: Four senior players ruled out as Glen Kamara travels with squad

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, John Souttar and Ben Davies will miss Rangers’ clash with PSV at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday night.

It has been confirmed that Morelos will miss the game as van Bronckhorst doesn’t believe the Colombia striker is ready to play.

Van Bronckhorst also confirmed the other absentees for the second leg of the Champions League qualification play-off but added that Glen Kamara travelled with the squad after he missed the 2-2 draw at Hibernian.

As quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account on Tuesday (23 August), van Bronckhorst said: “Roofe, Souttar and Davies didn’t travel with injury. Kamara travelled with the squad.”

Do or die

It’s a big one for Rangers.

Van Bronckhorst’s men failed to win the first leg at Ibrox last week so they’ll go into the second leg of their Champions League qualifier play-off on level terms.

It’s not the worst way to go into the game in Eindhoven – but it’s certainly not the best.

PSV have some seriously talented players in their squad, not least Manchester United-linked Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo.

Rangers have their own star talent too though and players like James Tavernier and Antonio Colak seem to be on top form going into the second leg showdown in Holland.

Rangers will be reaping the financial benefits of winning this game for years to come due to the money gained from qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

It could also lead to a late summer splurge by Ross Wilson and van Bronckhorst because this squad could still do with one or two more class players being added to it.

Saturday’s draw at Hibernian was plagued with controversy as we were robbed of three points.

That shouldn’t be used to gauge our form going into this tie but a two-goal reverse against Union Saint-Gilloise in the last round should prove to be inspiration for van Bronckhorst’s men on Wednesday night at the Philips Stadion.
