Rangers must keep hold of Glen Kamara despite firm transfer interest
It’s become a regular occurrence at Ibrox that the best players at Rangers get linked with moves away for bigger wages in Europe.
That’s happening again with midfielder Glen Kamara, who has been touted for moves to the Premier League and more recently to Turkey with Besiktas and Galatasaray and France with OGC Nice.
But after already losing Calvin Bassey to Ajax in a club record deal and being forced to sell Joe Aribo to Southampton after he refused to sign a new contract, they’re finally in a position of strength with one of these sagas.

Kamara is currently tied to Ibrox until June 2025, having penned a new long-term contract with Rangers just last year.
He was a regular under Steven Gerrard and maintained that standing in the team after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s arrival in November, starting regularly in their run to the Europa League final.
But this season Kamara has seemingly lost his starter status at the club with John Lundstram installed as the number one central midfielder at the club, leaving Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and himself all competing for the other spot alongside him.
That has made an exit possible, but if Rangers are serious about stopping Celtic from claiming back-to-back Scottish titles and going on another run in Europe they must ensure he stays.
Once described by sports journalist Janne Oivio as the Finland national team’s “best player”, Kamara offers a balance in defence and attack that no other central midfield options offer at the club.
Defensively he is astute, with great energy and intelligence to read the game and break up play. But he’s also accomplished on the ball and great in possession, while also able to dribble through defences to break lines if necessary.

He’s the complete package when it comes to midfield skillsets and at just 25-years-old, he has his peak years ahead of him.
When it comes to the biggest games and the biggest occasions, he tends to shine bright and never lets the team down. In the games where the team have the ball for 70% of the game he is competent and reliable enough to make things happen.
As a complete package, there is an argument that Kamara is Rangers’ best midfielder and selling him – especially at the fees quoted – would be a huge mistake.
So much so that if Kamara leaves Celtic’s management, players and fans will be rubbing their hands together as they inch closer towards another title at our expense.
