GvB vows to ‘look into’ red cards incidents for Rangers v Hibs

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed that Rangers will closely monitor the reasons which led to the side receiving two red cards in the match against Hibernian.

The Gers only managed a 2-2 draw against Hibs on Saturday after John Lundstram and Alfredo Morelos ended up receiving red cards in the hotly contested showdown.

Talking about it after the match, as quoted by Daily Record, the Dutch manager stated his point of view where he did not agree with the referee’s decision.

“It was a very physical game,” he said. “In the first half, we had to avoid some really tough challenges. In the second half, with the red card for John, it was a foul but he had no intention of hurting the player.

“The speed of the tackle wasn’t with a lot of force. The ref could have given yellow as well if you compare it with the challenge we conceded in the first half.

“Then we had to react with 10 men but the red card for Morelos made it worse and we had to play with nine. The players fought hard to get the best result possible.

“We’re going to analyse the game and see what’s the smartest thing to do but we will sure look into the red cards.”

Disappointing

Rangers entered the contest at the weekend hoping to have an easier outing than the one they had, especially keeping in mind that they had an important fixture coming up against PSV Eindhoven where they will have their Champions League fate decided.

But a demoralising draw is unlikely to help the team’s morale, especially when the Gers took the lead twice but only to let it slip later.

Therefore, it is now the responsibility of manager Van Bronckhorst who will have to ensure that his players will take that result out of their system and focus on arguably the biggest match of their season, especially in terms of finances.

It will also be interesting to see how players who received red cards in the match on Saturday — Lundstram and Morelos — will react in the match against PSV knowing that they let the team down in the match against Hibs which might come back to cost the Gers in a race for the Premiership title.

In other Rangers news, the Bears may consider appealing the decision to send John Lundstram off as van Bronckhorst scolds referee Willie Collum.
