Graeme Souness tells Rangers to ‘cash in’ on Alfredo Morelos after latest red card v Hibernian

Graeme Souness has told Rangers to cash in on Alfredo Morelos after his red card in the 2-2 draw with Hibernian at the weekend.

The Gers striker was shown a straight red card for raising his arm and catching an opponent in the face, which left the team with nine men after John Lundstram was sent off previously in a shocking decision by referee Willie Collum.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [August 22], Souness claimed that the Colombian is a liability for the club after his eighth red card since moving to Ibrox and said if they were offered money for him he’d take it.

“What’s in his head? The ball is played to him, he puts a feeler out and then he has another go,” he said.

“If you do that, you will get sent off. It comes to a point where you need to cut your losses with a player like that, in my opinion. Your are picking him to go to Celtic in a volatile atmosphere, and you don’t know what you are going to get.

“I think it’s a fact you can’ trust him. You can’t trust him in the big games.

“He gets goals but if Rangers are offered money for him, I’d be taking it.

“He’s got to be cuter. He’s not in the slightest. He has not learned his lesson, so I think Rangers should look to cash in, as you won’t win the big games with 10 men.

“The hard facts are if you get sent off eight times is that it suggests you are not learning.”

Decision time

Rangers have so far been adamant that they want to keep Morelos at the club this season despite the signing of Antonio Colak, but a decision needs to be made.

Morelos has entered the final year of his deal at Ibrox and while they are yet to face any concrete interest in him this summer, he has been linked with moves away for several transfer windows now.

It’s unknown how much Rangers would demand to let him leave considering his contract situation, but if they do want to sell up then there is no better time than this summer.

If he doesn’t sign a new deal then he’ll leave for free next summer most likely, but if he does sign a new deal then they’ll likely charge far too much for any interested parties to be able to move for him.

Fans love him and the general thought is that calming him down will take a lot away from his game, but if he costs the club points with his headloss antics then it may be worth parting ways.
