Rangers could appeal John Lundstram red card in 2-2 draw v Hibernian

Rangers failed to keep their 100 per cent record in tact away at Hibernian as they were twice pegged back by the home side at Easter Road.

James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence bagged the goals for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side but red cards to Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram left the door open for a comeback.

The manager was not happy with the decision to send off his midfielder and hinted that the club may look to appeal the decision made by referee Willie Collum.

“It was a physical game. I saw some tackles in the first half with a lot of passion. The ref makes the decision if it’s a red or yellow card,” he said to Sky Sports.

“John was harsh to get the red card. I think it was a foul but he didn’t have any intention to hit him really hard so I was surprised he gave the red card. We will have to look into this one.

“The second half, with the physicality they have it’s always going to be fighting duels. The second red card, I haven’t seen it back.

“So we will have to see what happened there but after the two decisions we were left with nine men so when we had the ball it was difficult to keep it and we were avoiding the goal against us.”

If there was ever a reason for the Virtual Assistant Referee (VAR) to be introduced into Scottish football then this incident is the prime example.

No referee in world football would consider that tackle a red card for a whole multitude of reasons and yet Collum was brainless enough to award it.

The club should be immediately appealing the decision because it might not even take more than a few seconds for the adjudicators to take a look and realise the size of the mistake the official made.

The trip was an obvious foul and yellow card and maybe an excuse to have sin-bins in football for such a cynical foul but as they are not in yet, the yellow card has to be sufficient.

Only Collum will know what he was thinking in brandishing red for that tackle but the three-match ban that comes with it will surely be overturned.

In other Rangers news, Tam McManus was gobsmacked at the decision to send Lundstram for an early bath let alone Morelos’ own red card.
