Defoe said: “You couldn’t speak on the pitch, the noise was just too much.”

“I remember turning around when the fans were bouncing, the stadium was bouncing with all the fans.

“My mum said to me after a game, ‘I can see why you like it here now’.”

Defoe for Rangers

Defoe was an undoubted success for Rangers during his two-stint at Ibrox despite joining the club at the later stage of his career.

The veteran forward had made 658 appearances and scored 255 goals before arriving in Scotland, which brought a wealth of experience to the team.

Under Steven Gerrard’s tenure, he became a senior figure in the team and one of Gerrard’s most trusted figures on the pitch.

In his two years at the club, the former Tottenham forward made 74 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 10 assists during that time.

In the 20/21 season, he scored seven goals and provided two assists as Rangers reclaimed their beloved Scottish Premiership title and Defoe established himself in Rangers folklore.
