Youri Mulder blasts Rangers team, expects PSV Eindhoven to progress in Champions League qualifier ‘easily’

Former Holland international Youri Mulder expects PSV Eindhoven to beat Rangers “easily” in their Champions League qualifier and says he doesn’t like them.

The Gers host PSV at Ibrox tonight in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier, with the winner of the tie qualifying for the group stages of this season’s tournament.

But while the game is expected by many to be a tough affair, Mulder told Ziggo Sport that the Glasgow club have just one good player in Malik Tillman and expects an easy win.

“I saw Rangers against Union [Saint-Gilloise],” he said.

“I didn’t like Rangers at all. (They are) two levels below than Monaco (who PSV beat in the last round). PSV will easily beat that. They have one good player and that is Malik Tillman.”

Motivation

If the Rangers players needed any motivation for this tie, which they absolutely shouldn’t, then they’ve absolutely got it now from Mulder.

Rangers have already defeated Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Sporting Braga and RB Leipzig in European competition at home this year, while they also overturned a 2-0 deficit against USG last time out too.

The crowd gives this team a huge lift and is something that many opposition clubs have never had to deal with before. They must take advantage of that in order to be successful.

A positive result at Ibrox is essential to qualification, because with a second leg in the Netherlands to come next week they need to have something to hold on to going into the game.

If they suffer defeat tonight then the tie is essentially over, and fans now have a reason to be even louder than normal to shut this guy up quickly.
