Ally McCoist labels PSV ‘favourites’ for Rangers clash

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has labelled PSV Eindhoven as the favourite for the UEFA Champions League qualification playoffs against Rangers.

Both sides will meet in the first leg of the two-lagged fixture at the Ibrox Stadium on Tuesday whereas the return leg will be played next week.

McCoist, while talking to talkSport as quoted by The Scotsman, suggested that the fixture will be a tough one for the Gers.

“It will be difficult, I’ll tell you that right now,” he said. “It was a great result last week against the Belgians, however, it’s a completely different entity tonight.

“PSV are a team of far better quality, no doubt about it. They’ve got good players – Gakpo is obviously interesting Manchester United.

“It’s a far tougher game for us but listen if we got out and play at home the way that, particularly, we’ve done recently in Europe then we’ll have a chance.

“I would be honest with you, I’d have PSV as slight favourites for the tie but anything can happen.”

Big night

Rangers had a bit of a roller coaster of a season so far. They started the opening day of the league competition and secured a win after coming from a goal down.

Then they suffered a 2-0 thrashing against Union SG in the first leg of the Champions League qualifiers but managed to turn it around the next week with an incredible 3-0 win while playing at home.

That result put the side on the brink of a Champions League group stage and the fans will be hoping that the players will continue producing the similar kind of performance they did just seven days ago at the same venue because a positive result will help the club in generating some serious cash.

It is also important that manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst get his team selection right and ensure that the Gers will take some advantage to the Netherlands where they will have a tough outing at the Philips Stadion.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart found some praise for one Bears player in a controversial incident.
