Rangers summer signing Ben Davies raves about Connor Goldson

Rangers summer signing Ben Davies has showered praise on senior defender Connor Goldson.

Davies joined from Liverpool this summer for a fee of £4 million, and he could be in line to start against PSV Eindhoven in the crucial Champions League play-off.

The 27-year-old has suggested that he will not start “shouting and bawling” at the moment.

“Concentration, I think that’s the main thing,” said Davies, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

“There might be games where you don’t have a lot to do but it could be the most vital thing in the game.

“It is something Connor is really good at and I’m sure if I play with him he’ll keep me right and I’ll try to keep him right as well.

“I’ve got a bit of experience and I know how crucial the transitions and other parts of the game are.

“So I’m looking to learn from Connor and the other defenders.

“I feel like I’ll grow into a team so I’m not going to come in and start shouting and bawling.

“I’m really excited. I feel like the standard in training and the technical ability on the ball has been really good, so I want to use these years to improve.”

Competition

Rangers have bolstered their defensive options this summer, and it’s up to the new players to step up.

The Bears lost Calvin Bassey who moved to Ajax on a club-record transfer fee this summer.

It won’t be easy for new players to fill his void straightaway, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst does have plenty of options at the moment.

Goldson signed a new deal in the summer, while John Souttar was added from Hearts on a free transfer. Filip Helander is another option, while hopes are high on young defender Leon King.

James Sands is another player who can play in central defence. So, Davies needs to be playing at a high level to keep his place on the side.

Apart from one mistake in the first half against St Johnstone, Davies looked comfortable alongside Goldson throughout the game.

Meanwhile, Rangers will look to take a big lead in the first leg against PSV when they meet at Ibrox on Tuesday night (16 August).
