Tam McManus backs Rangers to score 100+ goals this season, claims 5 subs rule is ‘very unfair’

Tam McManus is expecting Rangers and Celtic to score 100+ goals each this season after the “very unfair” decision to introduce 5 substitutes to the league.

Rangers have scored eight goals in their first three games, while Celtic have scored ten as both teams opened up the season with a 100% record.

According to McManus on his personal Twitter account that’s a sign that the gap between the Old Firm has got even bigger and believes that the new rule of five substitutions per team is of huge benefit to Rangers with their bigger squad against the rest of the league.

“Has the gap between Celtic/Rangers & the rest ever been bigger?” he said.

“Said before the start of the season both will score 100 goals. Looks like that [will] be achieved easily. 5 sub rule also very unfair on the smaller teams/squads. H2H games between the two [will] be more crucial than ever I think.”

Massive

There’s no doubting that five substitutes absolutely benefits Rangers and Celtic considering the gulf in quality between those two sides and the rest of the league.

But it’s exactly the same when there’s three subs, as they still have more quality and better players to pick from to turn a game on it’s head than their opponent does.

It’s a strange thing to complain about, but also shows that everyone is simply looking for a reason to discredit the quality of our squad and the ability we have.

Scoring 100+ goals is unprecedented in Scottish football in the modern era, and if we achieve it we’ll be more than deserving of the title that will surely follow it.

The only thing he’s right about is that the games against Celtic hold even more weight than usual because of the high level both teams are currently playing at, but that’s even better for the Scottish game.
