Rangers tipped to beat PSV by Dutch legend Ronald de Boer

Rangers have been tipped by Dutch legend and former player Ronald de Boer to beat PSV and secure Champions League qualification.

The Gers will meet the Dutch giants in a two-legged knockout tie later this month to try and qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

However, the 52-year-old has tipped his former club to qualify for the competition claiming that PSV were lucky to defeat AS Monaco in the last round. [Glasgow Times]

De Boer said: “I thought PSV were lucky to get through to the next stage of the Champions League.

“If you analyse the game, Monaco were the better team. But, of course, the better team doesn’t always go through in football.

“Gio is doing a tremendous job at Rangers.

“I really liked that his team tried to play attacking football and dominate games during their run to the Europa League final last season. “

Rangers or PSV?

De Boer has a point regarding PSV’s luck, as they barely scraped past Monaco in the previous round, winning 3-2 on 9 August.

They were far from convincing over the two legs and it took an extra winner to help the 34-time Eredivisie advance to the next round.

If the Gers performance against Belgian side Union Saint Gilloise is anything to go by, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team has heart and are prepared for battle.

Van Bronckhorst’s team bounced back from a 2-0 deficit showing character and inspiration to overcome the deficit and advance to the next round.

They will be tough to beat and will fancy their chances against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV Eindhoven side later this month.
