Nikola Katic considers future at Rangers after what Giovanni van Bronckhorst said about Ibrox outcast

Nikola Katic is considering his next move with the centre-back seemingly out of the reckoning at Rangers, according to Football Scotland.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already confirmed that Katic, 25, is not in his plans and after holding talks with the Croatia international, he’s agreed that he’s better off moving on this summer.

Football Scotland reported on 11 August that while “there’s no immediate move happening” for Katic, the former Slaven Belupo defender ” is considering what to do next”.

Rangers

It is understood that “he remains a favourite of the Rangers support for his style of play but is unlikely to pull on a blue shirt again”.

Unfortunate

Katic has really been a victim of that serious injury he suffered in the summer of 2020.

He missed the entire 2020/21 season and last summer, Steven Gerrard sent him on loan to Hajduk Split where he unfortunately was unable to prove his worth to the Ibrox hierarchy.

It makes sense for Katic to move on with van Bronckhorst already boasting a good number of quality centre-backs.

He’ll always be remembered for that goal at Celtic Park.

Katic scored the goal that won Rangers their first Old Firm victory at Parkhead in a decade in December 2019.

No one will be forgetting about that in a hurry as it led to the Gers turning the tide in the Scottish Premiership, stopping 10-in-a-row and going on the wonderful title-winning and Europa League runs that followed.

Rangers

Katic is good enough to play in a half-decent league in Europe and may end up returning to Croatia.

However, it seems as though the Gers are having issues drumming up interest for the ex-Hajduk loanee and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he goes out on loan again or has his contract terminated early.

In other Rangers news, a multi-million bid is being readied for one of Katic’s teammates at Ibrox.
