Richard Foster drools over Rangers new signing Malik Tillman v Union Saint-Gilloise

Richard Foster has showered praise on Malik Tillman as Rangers secured a 3-2 win on the aggregate against Union Saint-Gilloise at Ibrox on Tuesday (9 August).

The Bears came from a 2-0 deficit in the first leg to secure a 3-0 win. Two summer signings – Antonio Colak and Tillman scored on the night, while James Tavernier added another.

The Gers have progressed to the Champions League qualifying round, and they will up against PSV Eindhoven in their next European game.

“It’s incredible athleticism from Tillman. He’s about three feet above the keeper,” said Foster on BBC Sportsound, as relayed by BBC Sport.

Great start

The 20-year-old joined the Gers this summer from Bayern Munich on loan, and he has already made a big impact at the club.

He has looked like a top-quality talent in the opening three matches and has come up with a decisive goal in the Champions League game as well.

Union goalkeeper made a mess while trying to catch a cross from Borna Barisic, but Tillman showed great athleticism to jump high and head in from close range.

In the first half, Rangers started brilliantly but they looked sluggish. They failed to breach the Union defence but got the breakthrough right at the end of the half through Tavernier.

In the second half, the Bears were simply superb. They scored two fantastic goals and the defence stayed resolute.

Apart from a few misplaced passes, they didn’t look flustered. Having reached the finals of the Europa League last season where they won games at Ibrox after coming from behind, the confidence was already there.

In other Rangers news, one BBC pundit could not emphasise enough how important developments at the weekend for one player were in relation to the European game.
