Ally McCoist hails ‘unbelievable’ Rangers after historic comeback win over Union Saint-Gilloise
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has praised the “unbelievable” 3-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise at Ibrox in the Champions League while live on talkSPORT.
The Gers overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Antonio Colak and Malik Tillman to set up a blockbuster clash with PSV Eindhoven for a place in this season’s group stages.
And speaking live on the talkSPORT breakfast show [August 10, 6:07am] McCoist admitted that he felt the removal of the away goals rule helped the team be more care free while also sharing an amazing stat about the win.

“Unbelievable,” he said. “I never doubted them. They got a goal at the perfect time and then were quite comfortable really, two good goals in the second half.
“What a statistic, that it’s the first time Rangers have ever come back from a 2-0 deficit. That was amazing. That’s the stat. I cannot believe that. I didn’t know that we’ve never come back from a two-nothing in Europe.
“It was incredible. The atmosphere. Brilliant. I knew we had a fair chance, I did, but I also knew it would be difficult.
“I also think the removal of the away goal helps as well, because it means you can be a bit more care free. Terrific.”
Amazing
What a feeling, what a night. Rangers Football Club are absolutely massive and there’s nothing you can do about it.
The performance on the night was sensational and so much better than the first leg, where the team looked completely lost and once again the fans played a massive part in the result.

Captain fantastic getting on the scoresheet once again is becoming the norm, while Van Bronckhorst’s summer signings proved themselves once again in a historic night for the club.
Without having to worry about a USG goal meaning they’d need to score an extra one, they were allowed to be more free flowing in attack and the relentless pressure finally paid off.
Now they’ll have to do it again when they face PSV in a much tougher tie, but the Ibrox crowd will be raucous once again to try and make the groups for the first time since 2010.
