John Lundstram eager to use ‘disrespect’ towards Rangers as motivation in must-win clash v Union Saint-Gilloise

John Lundstram believes that Union SG were a “touch disrespectful” against Rangers in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifier.

The Gers suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first encounter last week in Belgium whereas the return leg will be played tonight back in Glasgow (August 9).

Lundstram was quoted in a report by Daily Mail where he stated that he felt there was an element of disrespect towards the club which would motivate the players going into the do and die encounter on Tuesday.

“You can use whatever motivation you need for this game,” he said. “Everyone is different. But we have certainly all seen it. We certainly all know it is there and is a touch disrespectful if you want to say.

“We are ready and whatever motivation you need, you can use what you like. We just need to turn up and we will.”

Decisive moment

Rangers faltered last season at a similar stage and the fans, as well as the players, will be hoping to not repeat what happened just 12 months ago.

The start of the qualifying phase was as bad as it could’ve been where hardly anything went right and the match became a horrible dream for the visitors.

They have received a slight boost ahead of the match as star players like striker Alfredo Morelos and winger Ryan Kent, who missed the previous outing because of fitness concerns, have been declared fit for tonight’s must-win match against Union SG.

The match will also going to be a massive one for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst who will be hoping his players to show a similar kind of magic as they did in the last season and cemented their place in the final of the Europa League where they came just short on penalties against Eintracht Frankfurt.

In other Rangers news, one BBC pundit could not emphasise enough how important developments at the weekend for one player were in relation to the European game.
