Rangers youngster Alex Lowry returns to training after calf injury

Young Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry has returned to training after a calf issue and featured in a reserves match, according to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.

The 19-year-old missed the majority of the club’s pre-season tour with injury issues but is now looking to step up his recovery and re-join the first team.

It has been revealed that the midfielder took part in a Rangers B team game and has been training with the reserve team before he joins the first team again.

Campbell said: “Alex Lowry was back in training last week after his calf issue.

“Played 45 mins for the B team against Spartans at the weekend.

“Trained with them rather than first-team as a way to be eased back in.

“Expected to join up again with first-team next week, all going well.”

Good news for Rangers

The return of Lowry is good news for Rangers fans as the youngster made a big impression on the team when he burst onto the scene last season.

The teenager came through the youth ranks at Ibrox and his impressive performances in the youth teams earned him a call-up to the first-team which he grasped with both hands.

He made his debut for the club in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion in January 2022, and marked his first game in the first team with a goal after half an hour.

The attacking midfielder, who can also be deployed on the right-wing, made seven appearances for the first-team for the rest of the season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Lowry has also made seven appearances for Scotland’s various youth teams, scoring two goals in five appearances for Scotland’s under-19 team.

Rangers fans will be eager for Lowry to return to fitness and continue his progress as soon as possible.

The Gers have made some exciting attacking signings this summer, with the likes of Malik Tillman, Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence all impressing in their story stays at Ibrox.

They will be hoping Lowry can re-join the ranks and connect well with the club’s flurry of attacking midfield talents.
