Giovanni van Bronckhorst hopes to add reinforcements to his Rangers squad ahead of CL clash

Giovanni van Bronckhorst hopes to add welcome back a number of players before Rangers’ Champions League qualifying match against Union Saint Gilloise.

Rangers will travel to Belgium to prepare for their first-leg fixture on Tuesday 2 July.

A number of first-team players were unavailable for the Gers’ 2-1 victory in their SPL opener at Livingstone on Saturday 30 July.

However, van Bronckhorst revealed that there’s hope that some of his key men will return.

As quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times (Sunday 31 July), the Rangers boss said: “We will have Ridvan Yilmaz training with us today (Sunday), Rabbi Matondo as well.

“Morelos has already been training with us a couple of days, in parts of the training.

“And we can take a bigger squad in Europe so we have more players to choose from and we have to see if those players are fit enough to travel.”

Risk them?

Is it worth throwing in the likes of Alfredo Morelos in the hope that he may be fit to make an impact in the first leg in Belgium?

The Colombian striker has been out of action for a long time after sustaining a thigh injury whilst on international duty.

He is undoubtedly one of the Gers’ main threats and if fully fit would put Rangers in a strong position to qualify for the group stages.

It is a tough decision for van Bronckhorst to make considering the importance of their fixture in Belgium.

Another question mark will be whether to introduce Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo into proceedings.

Both players were signed to make an immediate impact at Ibrox and could well be considered on Tuesday night.

It may well be a case of the Rangers boss introducing some of his new signings from the bench and easing them into life in Scotland.
