John Hartson heaps praise on Rangers new signings Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence

John Hartson expects Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence to make a huge impact at Rangers in the upcoming Scottish Premiership season.

The two players are part of seven new signings that have arrived at the Ibrox Stadium in the ongoing transfer window with Ross Wilson working his magic.

Hartson, while speaking on Go Radio, suggested that the arrival of the duo will make the Gers a stronger unit in the upcoming campaign.

“Good players, I have seen a bit of Rabbi Matondo with the Welsh set-up, very quick, very direct, skilful,” he said. “He’s one for the future but I think he can make an impact.

“Tom Lawrence, lots of experience with the national team, with Derby, Wayne Rooney made him captain, that’s how much he thought of him around the place.

“He can play along the front, anywhere through the middle or wide. Rob Page doesn’t pick him for some reason. For me, two good players, two proud Welsh lads and two good signings, especially Matondo who is a threat.

“He likes to take players on. Only likes to go one way, one thing on his mind, he’s very positive. That’s a good signing, Rabbi Matondo.”

Attacking Hub

Despite not landing a major trophy last season, it can be classified as a satisfactory campaign for Giovani van Bronckhorst.

The Light Blues were unable to defend their league title and fell just short of making European history by losing the Europa League final to Eintracht Frankfurt but went on to win the Scottish Cup.

Despite the success, it is always good to highlight the deficiencies within the team and one weakness was the lack of goals.

After an injury to Ianis Hagi, it almost felt like someone had taken the sting out of Rangers’ attacks.

Therefore, the Light Blues needed attacking players who don’t just score goals but also create goals through their intelligence.

Both Lawrence and Matondo are those players. Lawrence can occupy the centre-forward role and prove to be an excellent backup for the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak.

Moreover, Matondo can occupy both the attacking midfield and the wing positions. With a good group of attacking players, the Rangers can progress both in the domestic league and the Champions League.
