Giovanni van Bronckhorst comments come as a blow to Rangers fans

Giovanni van Bronckhorst expects Ridvan Yilmaz to be last Rangers summer addition in a major blow for the Ibrox faithful after Calvin Bassey’s big-money move to Ajax.

Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie reported the Dutchman’s words on Twitter (23 July) that the Gers are closing in on a move for Yilmaz, also suggesting that there won’t be any further additions unless there is another departure at Ibrox.

After Bassey’s move to Ajax, surely there was an expectation for that fee to be cleverly reinvested into the Gers squad.

Rangers have been active in the transfer window, but there must now be some frustration considering the further improvements that could have been made to the squad, with deals for Yilmaz and Ben Davies only taking a fraction of the Bassey fee.

The Europa League run and Scottish Cup victory should have been used as a platform for Rangers to really kick on and make themselves the main force in Scotland again after Celtic regained the SPL title in the 2021/22 season.

Rangers have made some good additions during the summer after losing two of their main men in Joe Aribo and Bassey, but considering the money those two brought in there might have been expectations of more.

Only time will tell whether the Gers have adequately replaced Bassey and Aribo.

If their summer business is now finished, it will be good to see van Bronckhorst make use of some of his younger players in the 2022/23 campaign.

Alex Lowry enjoyed a positive end to last season and could well make a big impact this season if he is given the chance to impress.

After a busy summer so far, one more marquee signing wouldn’t go a miss at Ibrox in the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, Yilmaz’s sale has already been confirmed by Besiktas who announced it via the Turkish Stock Exchange.
